Sango dance wand ca. 1900. This wooden artefact "Oshe" has a beautiful patina and aged wonderful according to its smooth surface. The kneeling woman is a devote of Shango, the god of iron and thunder. Holding her breast is a symbol for fertility. On her head she wears the thunderbolt "edun ara" also symbolising Shango. The dance wand is used during the Shango festival and other ritual occasions.
